Helmet Laws
  • Bicycles:
    No statewide helmet law for traditional bicycles.

  • E-Bikes:
    No state-level helmet requirement for any class of e-bike.
    • Helmets are strongly recommended, particularly for Class 3 and younger riders.


E-Bike Classification

Nevada uses the standard 3-class e-bike system:

  • Class 1: Pedal-assist only, max 20 mph

  • Class 2: Throttle-assist, max 20 mph

  • Class 3: Pedal-assist only, max 28 mph

✔ E-bikes are not considered motor vehicles under Nevada law.
✔ No driver’s license, registration, or insurance required.


Where You Can Ride
  • Sidewalks:
    • Regulated locally — some cities prohibit e-bikes on sidewalks.

  • Bike Lanes:
    • E-bikes are permitted unless specifically prohibited by local ordinance.

  • Shared-Use Paths / Trails:
    Class 1 & 2 typically allowed.
    Class 3 use may be restricted on multi-use paths with heavy pedestrian traffic.

  • Roadways:
    • E-bikes are allowed wherever bicycles are permitted, excluding freeways.


Age Restrictions
  • Riders must be at least 16 years old to operate a Class 3 e-bike.

  • No age restriction for Class 1 and 2 e-bikes.


Lights & Equipment
  • For night riding, bikes and e-bikes must have:
    • A white front light visible from 500 feet
    • A red rear reflector or light visible from 300 feet

  • Reflective material on pedals and tires recommended.

  • Must have working brakes capable of skidding on dry pavement.
